Item Description
We don't know how these things happen, but a small number of First Editions
showed up! This is one of the classic reprint books of all time. It was first
published in 1988 to celebrate Mickey's 60th anniversary. Fully licensed by the
folks at Walt Disney, this full-color hardcover is devoted to the early comic
strip work of celebrated Disney artist Floyd Gottfredson. In 1930, Mr.
Gottfredson took over the Mickey Mouse daily strip. He was still drawing it in
1975! He shaped the face of Mickey as much as, if not more than, anyone else.
The Mickey that appeared in the daily strips was a very different Mouse than you
are probably used to. He was one adventurous young mouse! He had nerves of steel
and tackled everything from Giants to Airplanes to Pirates. This book will make
you re-think the way you look at the Mouse. One thing that sets this book apart
from most reprint books is that every strip is reprinted with its continuity
intact. You will not be left hanging by any of the story lines. The contents are
4 complete Sunday story lines and 4 complete daily strip stories. All art
published has been taken directly from the original proofs as supplied by King
Features Syndicate. The Sunday Strips were re-colored using the original Sunday
color proofs as guides. They closely match the original color as it first
appeared in Sunday Newspapers across the country. The Dailies were colored from
scratch. The guides were first painted on paper by Mike McCormick and than sent
to Steve Oliff who put treated acetate over black and white proofs. Oliff and
his assistants than hand-painted directly onto the acetates which were than
photographed for color separation. The results are gorgeous. Originally listed
at $ 39.95, this incredible book is now just $ 20.00.
