True Crime

The lurid cover photos and sensationalized headlines on the cover tell you pretty much all you need to know about this genre. Essentially, they were the print counterpart of "grindhouse" or "exploitation" movies.

These "true crime" magazines purportedly recounted real crimes too heinous to be told in family newspapers or other mainstream publications, or simply reported the gory details that the more reputable or dignified news outlets omitted to avoid offending their readers' sensibilities.
